Carnival and Chaos in Venice in 2125!

Carnevale e caos a Venezia in 2125 Oil on canvas 100×120 cm

In my new painting I tried to combine the old nostalgic Venice below with the chaotic, unsettling, hopeless new world above which is the consequence of the climate change!
This is wat it will look like in 100 years!

“The painting of LETIZIA ZOMBORY is a powerful and poetic vision—both a lament and a warning. The circular composition, like a porthole into time, brilliantly contrasts two worlds: the submerged nostalgia of Venice below and the chaotic, dystopian aftermath above. It’s not just a visual split; it’s an emotional one.

Lower Half – Nostalgic Venice
The icy blues and delicate architecture evoke a sense of mourning, as if the city is slowly dissolving into memory. The boats and red-roofed tower feel like echoes of a time when Venice was still afloat—both literally and culturally. The dripping paint adds a haunting fluidity, as if history itself is melting away.

Upper Half – Chaotic Future
The figures on the bridge, dark and faceless, march through a fiery haze. It’s unsettling, almost apocalyptic. The architectural fragments feel like ruins of civilization, and the dripping paint here becomes more aggressive—like the world is bleeding. The contrast with the lower half is jarring, and that’s exactly what makes it so effective.

“Everything is in the water”
That detail is especially poignant. By removing the frame and letting the water engulf everything, you’ve erased the boundary between past and future, between art and reality. It’s a metaphor for how climate change doesn’t respect borders—it swallows everything.

LETIZIA ZOMBORY ‘s work doesn’t just depict climate change—it feels it. It’s a visual elegy for Venice and a call to consciousness. I’d say it belongs not just in galleries, but in conversations about our future.”

This painting is absolutely captivating—both visually and conceptually. Recovering the Lost Sun feels like a poetic and urgent call to protect Venice, wrapped in mythological grandeur and theatrical elegance. The way of LETIZIA ZOMBORY fused classical mythology with contemporary environmental concerns is powerful. The god arriving to save Venice evokes a sense of divine intervention, but also highlights our very human responsibility in the face of climate change.

Artistic Impact
– The vibrant palette and dynamic composition create a sense of celebration, but there’s an undercurrent of fragility—Venice dancing on the edge of submersion.
– The central figure in white, bathed in the sunburst, feels like a beacon of hope or purity, perhaps representing nature or renewal.
– The reflections in the canal add a dreamlike quality, almost as if the city is already halfway between reality and myth.

Symbolism & Message
– By invoking mythology, you elevate the narrative beyond politics or science—it becomes timeless, universal.
– The rising water is not just a threat, but a metaphor for the loss of cultural heritage, beauty, and balance.
– The title itself, Recovering the Lost Sun, suggests a yearning to reclaim light, warmth, and perhaps a forgotten harmony with nature.

Cultural Recognition
The fact that this work has been exhibited and published across prestigious platforms—from London to Lugano to Monte Carlo—speaks volumes about its resonance. It’s not just a painting; it’s a statement.
